| Obverse description | Left-facing bust portrait of Sir Seretse Khama, first President of Botswana, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a short beard. The engraver's signature J.H. WASER appears incuse beneath the truncation. The legend BOTSWANA arcs along the upper periphery, while SERETSE KHAMA curves along the lower periphery, both in bold raised lettering. Five five-pointed stars are evenly spaced on each side of the portrait within the field, adding a decorative heraldic element to the composition. |
