Additional information

This piece commemorates the centennial of Canada's silver dollar program, which traces to the 1911 pattern dollars struck but never issued — a political casualty of George V's coronation year, when the "Dei Gratia" omission on early dies caused enough controversy that the entire dollar coinage was shelved before circulation. The 1911 dollar remains one of the great Canadian numismatic rarities, with only two known specimens.
