Obverse description Uncrowned and unadorned left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear below the truncation of the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features. The peripheral legend reads GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX, omitting the IND:IMP: (Emperor of India) title used on earlier issues. A fine toothed border frames the design.
