Beschrijving keerzijde Large bold denomination numeral '50' above the word CENTS, all set within a raised beaded inner circle occupying the central field. The issuer name STRAITS SETTLEMENTS arcs along the upper periphery and HALF DOLLAR with the date appears along the lower periphery, both legends separated by short dashes. The design is contained within an outer beaded border running along the rim.

The shift to .500 fine silver for this issue was a direct consequence of the post-WWI silver price spike, which made the earlier .800 fine coins worth more as bullion than as currency. The Straits Settlements Treasury made the change in 1920, and the two KM varieties reflect a subtle difference in the number of teeth on the milled edge — a production adjustment made mid-run rather than at a clean year boundary.
