British Honduras received its own coinage through the Royal Mint in London rather than any local striking facility, a arrangement that persisted throughout the colonial period. The 1911 issue coincided with George V's accession coinage across the Empire following Edward VII's death, making it part of a broad re-tooling of colonial series rather than anything specific to the Belize territory.
The colony's economy ran heavily on mahogany and chicle exports, with the U.S. dollar circulating alongside official coinage in practice. Few of these fifty-cent pieces saw hard use.
