Obverse description Portrait vignette of Abraham Lincoln at right, rendered in intaglio, facing left in three-quarter bust. The left portion of the note carries the large bold inscription 'UNITED STATES' in arched lettering above 'Fractional Currency', with a central guilloche medallion bearing the large numeral '50' flanked by the words 'FIFTY' and 'CENTS'. Below the central design, a cursive legend states receivability in United States stamps, accompanied by two facsimile signatures of Treasury officials and the printer's imprint 'American Bank Note Co. N.Y.' along the lower border.

Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in green intaglio on a dense guilloche background. A large diamond-shaped central panel carries the legal tender text in multiple lines, flanked on each side by ornate lathe-work scrollwork with oval counters bearing the numeral '50'. At top, the cursive inscription 'Fifty Cents' appears, and at the bottom the denomination numerals '50 50' are set within a further guilloche band above the imprint 'National Bank Note Co. New York'.
