Reverse description A crowned lion rampant to the left, holding a sword, positioned behind a heraldic shield; the denomination numeral 50 appears to the right of the central device. Twelve five-pointed stars encircle the design, referencing the European Union motif. The composition is rendered in a clean, modernist engraving style consistent with Euro coinage pattern issues.

Additional information

In preparation for potential eurozone entry, several Channel Island dependencies commissioned essai strikes in the early 2000s to test blank specifications and die alignment against EU minting standards. Guernsey never adopted the euro, making these brass trial pieces dead-end administrative artifacts — produced for a monetary union the island formally declined to join.
