Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA
(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse depicts two white-tailed ptarmigans (Lagopus leucurus) in dynamic flight, their wings fully spread and rendered in fine naturalistic detail against a polished proof field. A third bird is shown ascending in the upper right background, adding depth and movement to the composition. Sparse alpine vegetation, including low-growing branched shrubs, occupies the lower right of the field, evoking the species' high-altitude habitat. The scientific name LAGOPUS LEUCURUS is inscribed in italicised lettering along the lower centre of the field, while CANADA arcs along the bottom rim and 50 CENTS with the date 1995 appears vertically along the right periphery.
