Additional information

Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's athlete-focused series tied to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, this piece was one of several colourized 50-cent issues featuring Canadian Paralympic and Olympic competitors by name. "Sumi" refers to the official Paralympic mascot, not an athlete — a thunderbird spirit animal designed by Cowichan First Nation artist Meky Moses, drawing on several Pacific Northwest Indigenous traditions simultaneously. The series was sold directly to collectors and saw virtually no circulation.
