(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse presents a vibrant colourised rendition of the national flag of Canada — bearing its iconic red-and-white maple leaf design — superimposed over a stylised outline map of the Canadian landmass, evoking national pride and geographic identity. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by the commemorative dates 1818-2018 marking the 200th anniversary of the issuing institution, with the mintmark SM appearing in the lower field. The colourisation technique, applied by the Royal Canadian Mint, lends striking visual contrast to the design.

Additional information

Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing "O Canada" circulation-quality collector series, this issue draws its name from the second line of the English version of "O Canada" — a phrase that gained official status only in 1980, when Parliament finally standardized the national anthem's lyrics after decades of regional and bilingual variation. The 50-cent piece itself has been largely absent from everyday Canadian commerce since the 1990s, produced almost exclusively for collector sets rather than circulation.
