Issued to mark the Australian Light Horse and the Walers — the hardy crossbred horses that carried Australian cavalry through the Sinai and Palestine campaigns of World War I — this is effectively an Australian commemorative wearing Solomon Islands livery. The arrangement is purely fiscal: the Solomon Islands central bank licenses its monetary authority to foreign minting operations, generating revenue from collector sales with no expectation of domestic circulation. The coins never reach the Solomons.
