Part of a broader wave of licensed pop culture issues that flooded the Pacific island mint-treaty market in the late 2010s, this piece was produced under Cook Islands' long-standing arrangement allowing third-party distributors — primarily European numismatic publishers — to use its sovereign authority for collectible coinage that never approaches the islands themselves. The nominal face value is essentially fictional; no vendor on Rarotonga would accept it at fifty cents.
