Additional information

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever 50-cent piece was part of the Royal Canadian Mint's dog breed series launched in the mid-1990s, a program conceived largely to capture the collector market rather than serve any circulation function. These were sold directly to collectors in presentation packaging and saw essentially no commercial use. The Toller itself is Canada's only native retriever breed, developed in Nova Scotia's Yarmouth County during the early 19th century specifically to mimic the behavior of foxes luring waterfowl toward shore.
