Part of a series of numismatic oddities referencing Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, this piece was issued by Cook Islands under the broad licensing arrangements that have made the territory one of the most prolific producers of themed novelty coinage in the Pacific. Cook Islands has maintained a formal currency agreement with New Zealand since 1995, which technically authorizes legal tender issues while the coins themselves are produced entirely for the collector market and never circulate domestically.
