Averslegende ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA P
Reversbeschreibung Created by Canadian engraver Thomas Shingles, the design on the reverse represents the Canadian coat of arms. To the left of the shield, a lion holds the Union Jack, while to the right of the shield, a unicorn carries a flag adorned with three fleurs-de-lis. The shield is divided into five sections bearing the historic emblems of England, France, Scotland and Ireland, as well as a sprig of three maple leaves, and is encircled by a ribbon bearing the motto of the Order of Canada: Desiderantes meliorem patriam (They desire a better country). Above the shield is a royal helmet surrounded by a garland of maple leaves, and the helmet`s crest is surmounted by a crowned lion holding a maple leaf. Above the lion, symbolizing Canada`s sovereignty, is the Crown of St. Edward, representing Canada`s constitutional monarchy. At the base of the shield is a ribbon bearing the motto A Mari usque ad Mare (From Sea to Sea) and a garland composed of the floral emblems of England, Scotland, France and Ireland.
