Obverse description The obverse presents the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as rendered by Canadian sculptor Susan Taylor, depicting the Queen in right-facing profile at approximately 77 years of age, uncrowned, with a draped neckline, pearl necklace, and drop earrings. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine sculptural detail characteristic of Royal Canadian Mint commemorative issues. The truncated legend surrounding the effigy reads ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA, with the letter P appearing at the far right of the arc, denoting Proof quality. The field is polished to a mirror finish consistent with the coin's proof designation.

Reverse description The reverse bears a highly detailed, engraved rendition of the Arms of Canada as designed by Thomas Shingles. The central shield is divided into five quartered sections displaying the historic heraldic emblems of England (three golden lions passant guardant on red), Scotland (a red lion rampant on gold), Ireland (a gold harp on blue), France (three gold fleurs-de-lis on blue), and Canada (three red maple leaves on a white sprig on silver), all encircled by the riband bearing the motto of the Order of Canada, DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM. The dexter supporter is a lion rampant or holding a lance from which flies the Union Jack, and the sinister supporter is a unicorn argent crowned and gorged, bearing a lance flying a banner of three fleurs-de-lis. Above the shield rises a royal helmet mantled in argent and gules, surmounted by a wreath of maple leaves from which issues a crowned lion passant guardant or holding a red maple leaf; above this crest stands the Crown of St. Edward. Beneath the shield, a scroll bears the national motto A MARI USQUE AD MARE, flanked by the floral emblems of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland. The date 20 19, the inscription CANADA, and the denomination 50 CENTS appear in the legend of the field.
