Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse reproduces Alex Colville's celebrated 1967 Centennial design depicting a seated wolf in profile, rendered in frosted gold relief against a deeply mirrored black field. The animal is shown in a composed, upright seated posture facing left, with fine detail in the fur and musculature. The denomination '50 CENTS' arcs across the upper field, while 'CANADA 2020' is inscribed along the lower periphery. The entire design is framed by a beaded border, consistent with the original Colville Centennial aesthetic.

Aanvullende informatie

The Colville wildlife designs from Canada's 1967 centennial coinage have been reissued repeatedly in precious metal formats, but this restrike carries a specific irony: Alex Colville received a flat fee for his original 1967 commission with no provision for royalties, despite those designs becoming among the most reproduced in Canadian numismatic history. The centennial series was itself a deliberate cultural project, with the government bypassing the usual effigy-only convention to commission original artwork across all six circulating denominations.

Struck in .9999 fine gold at 3.14 grams, the coin fits into a long RCM program of fractional gold restrikes exploiting the enduring commercial appetite for the Colville originals.
