In the upper portion of the field, two figures are depicted at camp: one seated and smoking a pipe beside a campfire with a dog, and another resting with a swag beneath a wind-bent tree. The lower portion features a bearded drover with a child, a lone swagman in a wide-brimmed hat, and a solitary outback homestead receding into the distance. The stylised title lettering ON THE EDGE OF A PLAIN dominates the central field in large mixed-case serif characters, with the denomination 50 displayed in a framed cartouche at the lower right. The engraver's initials AWB appear to the right of the upper scene. |
