The RAM's annual Christmas fifty-cent series has run long enough to become a collector's subscription habit rather than a circulation issue — these pieces are sold directly into sets and rarely see a till. The Golden Wattle selection ties to Australia's national floral emblem, declared official under the Floral Emblems of Australia recognition of 1988, though the wattle's association with Australian identity stretches back considerably further in folk usage and the federation debates of the 1890s.
The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was adopted by the RAM in 2019.
