The Royal Australian Mint introduced a sixth portrait of Elizabeth II by sculptor Jody Clark in 2015, the same effigy adopted across Commonwealth coinage following the retirement of Ian Rank-Broadley's design. Gold-plated circulation-format pieces like this one occupy an odd commercial niche — priced above face value as collectibles, yet struck on standard coin blanks rather than fine silver or gold flans. The 2020 date places it in the final years of Australian Elizabeth II coinage before her death in September 2022 ended a 70-year reign on Australian currency.
