Fiji's 1969 low-denomination notes were issued under the Government of Fiji rather than a central bank — the Fiji Dollar had only been introduced in 1969, replacing the Fiji Pound at a two-to-one conversion as the country prepared for independence the following year. The 50 Cents sat at the awkward bottom of a decimal system still unfamiliar to most of the population.
De La Rue printed the series in London, as they had handled Fiji's currency needs for decades. The watermark is the sole security feature — modest even by the standards of the period.
