The curved legend 'Year of the Ox' is inscribed along the lower rim in serif lettering, completing the design from this series celebrating the Chinese Lunar calendar. |

Australia's lunar bullion series, produced by the Perth Mint under license from the Royal Australian Mint, assigns a new animal each year in the twelve-year cycle — the Ox year running from January 26, 2009. The series was launched in 1996 and has since become one of the more aggressively collected modern bullion programs in Asia, where demand from Chinese diaspora communities drives secondary market premiums well above spot.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was introduced across Commonwealth coinage in 1998.
