Additional information

Australia's Lunar Series I launched in 1996 as the Royal Australian Mint's direct challenge to the Perth Mint's dominant bullion program — an internal rivalry within the same country's minting infrastructure that few buyers appreciated at the time. The Year of the Dragon issue landed in 2000, the most commercially coveted animal in the twelve-year cycle, and demand from Southeast Asian buyers pushed this particular release well beyond typical annual figures for the series.

KM#522 is the half-ounce denomination within a multi-coin release that year, a detail worth noting when cross-referencing against the one-ounce KM#523.
