正面描述 The fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, faces right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2006 along the right. The engraver's initials IRB appear truncated below the Queen's neck. The design is set within the characteristic twelve-sided dodecagonal flan of the Australian fifty-cent coin.

背面描述 The central field features a stylised outline figure of a Rugby Sevens player in a dynamic running pose, rendered in a flowing linear art style with an elliptical form encircling the athlete to convey movement and speed. A rugby ball appears to the right of the figure. In the upper left, the official Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games logo is depicted, incorporating the stylised athlete emblem above the inscription MELBOURNE 2006. The legend XVIII COMMONWEALTH GAMES arcs around the right and upper periphery, with the denomination numeral 50 positioned at the lower right. The engraving is the work of Wojciech Pietranik.

附加信息

The 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne were the first to include Rugby Sevens as a full medal sport, and Australia's mint moved quickly to issue a commemorative program covering multiple disciplines. This 50-cent piece is one of several sport-specific releases in that series, each struck in the familiar dodecagonal format that has defined Australian fifty-cent coinage since 1969.

Mintage figures for individual sport variants within the series varied considerably, and some proved significantly harder to locate in circulation than others.
