Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing draped bust wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left periphery, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2011 continuing along the right, all in Latin script. The engraver's initials IRB appear truncated at the base of the effigy. The portrait is rendered in fine relief against a smooth field, befitting the coin's dodecagonal flan.
