The design is set against a deeply mirrored proof background, with the smooth twelve-sided rim framing the composition. This piece was part of the Royal Australian Mint's "Celebrate Australia's Future" program, which invited school students to submit reverse designs as a civics and arts initiative. The winning student design was selected from thousands of entries nationwide. It is one of the few Australian legal-tender coins where the reverse carries no professional engraver's work whatsoever.
