The Solomon Islands has issued commemorative silver proofs under its own authority since independence in 1978, but the 4th portrait of Elizabeth II — sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley and adopted across Commonwealth territories from 1998 — appears on a remarkably wide range of such issues, many produced by the Perth Mint or Pobjoy Mint on contract rather than by any domestic facility. The Solomons has no mint of its own.
KM#237a distinguishes this silver proof from the base-metal circulation strike of the same denomination and date.
