Issued to mark the engagement of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, announced on 16 November 2010, this coin appeared within weeks of the public announcement — the Royal Australian Mint moving quickly to capitalize on what was already guaranteed to be one of the most commercially successful royal events in decades. The partial gold plating was applied selectively, a technique the RAM had been refining through several earlier commemorative issues in the late 2000s.
