| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, rendered in fine portrait detail after Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait. The queen's hair is styled in soft curls beneath the jewelled crown, and the bust is shown bare-shouldered and unrobed. The legend NEW ZEALAND arcs along the left periphery, while ELIZABETH II curves along the right.
