The "frosted" finish here refers to a selectively sandblasted die treatment applied to portrait fields, a technique the Royal Australian Mint began deploying more aggressively on commemorative circulation-class coins in the 2010s to create contrast without requiring full proof production costs. These entered general circulation despite the finish, meaning survivors with intact frosting are a function of luck rather than design.
