Issued to mark the centenary of Australia's first stamps bearing George V's portrait, this coin reproduces the form of the 1914 definitive stamp series — an unusual exercise in cross-medium numismatics that the Royal Australian Mint has periodically revisited. The pad-printing process, which applies colour directly onto the struck surface, was still relatively novel in Australian coinage at this point, and early examples occasionally show registration inconsistencies between the printed layer and the underlying relief.
