Australia's FIFA licensing arrangements in the early 2010s produced a cluttered series of commemoratives timed well ahead of the 2014 Brazil tournament — this piece issued a full two years before the opening match. The pad-printing process, which applies a polymer-based colored ink layer onto the struck surface, was still relatively novel for the Perth Mint at this point and gives the coin a finish that deteriorates noticeably if the surface is mishandled.
