| 正面描述 | The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing crowned bust with finely detailed hair and jewelled necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left periphery, while AUSTRALIA curves along the right, with the date 2014 at the lower right. The engraver's initials IRB appear beneath the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a polished field, characteristic of the Rank-Broadley style adopted for Commonwealth coinage from 1998. |

The Battle of Cocos, fought on 9 November 1914, produced Australia's first naval engagement of the war and its first Victoria Cross recipient. HMAS Sydney intercepted the German cruiser SMS Emden, which had spent months raiding Allied shipping across the Indian Ocean — sinking or capturing 30 vessels before its end off Direction Island. The action lasted roughly 90 minutes before Emden was beached and destroyed.
This issue is part of the broader Australians at War series released across 2014–2015, one of several circulating commemoratives the Royal Australian Mint produced in standard copper-nickel to keep collector pricing accessible.
