The Perth Mint's reptile bullion series drew on Australia's saltwater crocodile — the largest living reptile on earth and a species that has remained essentially unchanged for 200 million years. Unlike the Mint's flagship Kookaburra and Koala programs, this series never achieved the same collector following, keeping secondary market premiums modest despite relatively controlled mintages.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was introduced on Australian coinage in 1999 and remained in use until the transition to Jody Clark's effigy.
