Part of the Perth Mint's WWI centenary series, this piece marks the hundred-year anniversary of 1917 — arguably the war's most catastrophic year for Australian forces, encompassing the grinding failures at Passchendaele and the Third Battle of Ypres, where the AIF suffered losses that shook public confidence in the campaign back home. The pad-printed color application, unusual in commemorative silver, was introduced by the Perth Mint to render battlefield imagery with a precision that conventional die work cannot achieve.
