Part of the Perth Mint's centenary series commemorating the First World War's defining campaigns, this piece marks the 1917 Sinai and Palestine Campaign — specifically the mounted charges at Beersheba and Gaza where Australian Light Horsemen used speed and shock tactics to overcome entrenched Ottoman positions. The charge at Beersheba on October 31, 1917, is considered the last successful cavalry charge in military history, with the 4th and 12th Light Horse Regiments covering open ground under fire before taking the town and its critical wells before they could be demolished.
