Reverse description The Australian Commonwealth Coat of Arms occupies the centre of the dodecagonal field, featuring a quartered shield displaying the badges of the six states, surmounted by a seven-pointed Commonwealth Star. The shield is supported on the left by a red kangaroo and on the right by an emu, both rendered in fine relief against decorative foliate scrollwork designed by Stuart Devlin. The denomination numeral 50 appears in large stylised figures at the lower centre of the field, with the engraver's initials SD visible beneath the shield. The entire composition is struck to proof finish with frosted devices contrasting against mirror-polished fields.
