Issued to mark the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games — seven years after the fact — this piece belongs to the Royal Australian Mint's "Masterpieces in Silver" subscription series, which repackaged existing and commemorative designs in sterling for the collector market rather than circulation. The series was commercially driven, targeting the growing 1980s coin collecting boom in Australia.
