Beschrijving voorzijde Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, depicting the third crowned portrait by Raphael Maklouf, the Queen wearing the King George IV State Diadem. The legend 'ELIZABETH II · NEW ZEALAND' arcs around the upper periphery, with 'RDM' denoting the designer's initials at lower right, and the date '1994' positioned below the effigy. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a flat field, in the refined, formal style characteristic of Commonwealth coinage of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

New Zealand's bimetallic coinage arrived in 1994 as part of a broader regional shift — Australia had introduced similar technology in 1988, and Pacific nations followed incrementally. This particular reverse subject marks the 225th anniversary of Cook's first voyage, during which Endeavour ran aground on the Great Barrier Reef in June 1770 and required nearly seven weeks of emergency repairs on the Queensland coast before the journey could continue.
