| Obverse description | The third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, faces right wearing the George IV State Diadem. The Queen is depicted with a draped neckline, her hair elegantly styled beneath the jewelled crown. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA followed by the date of issue, with the engraver's initials RDM appearing below the truncation of the bust. |

| Reverse description | The Commonwealth of Australia Coat of Arms is centrally displayed, supported on the dexter side by a kangaroo and on the sinister side by an emu, both rendered in fine relief against a decorative background of native wattle foliage. The quartered shield depicts the badges of the six Australian states, surmounted by a seven-pointed Commonwealth Star. The large numeral 50 appears prominently in the lower field, with the engraver's initials SD (Stuart Devlin) visible at the base of the design. |
