Additional information

The "modified reverse" designation on this issue refers to a 1977 redesign of the beaded border and water lines on the coat of arms reverse — a subtle but catalogued distinction that separates KM#75.2 from its predecessor. The change was made quietly, mid-series, with no public announcement from the Royal Canadian Mint.

Canadian fifty-cent pieces of this period saw almost no circulation. By the late 1970s, the denomination had effectively vanished from daily commerce despite continued production, hoarded by the public the moment it appeared in change.
