背面描述 The Canadian coat of arms is displayed centrally in high relief, featuring the quartered royal shield supported by a lion rampant guardant to the left and a unicorn to the right, both rendered in fine detail. The shield incorporates the arms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and France in the upper quarters, with the Canadian maple leaves in the base. Below the shield, a ribbon cartouche bears the national motto 'A MARI USQUE AD MARE' (From Sea to Sea). The inscriptions 'CANADA', '50 CENTS', and the date '2004' arc around the upper periphery of the field, flanking a royal crown at the apex. The design is struck in proof finish with frosted devices against a mirror field.

附加信息

Canada's fifty-cent piece had effectively disappeared from everyday commerce long before 2004 — the denomination was last seriously circulated in the 1960s, after which rising silver prices and public indifference made it a denomination that existed largely on paper. By the 2000s, the Royal Canadian Mint was producing annual circulation strikes in quantities so low they went directly into collector sets, never reaching tellers or cash drawers.

The second portrait, by effigy sculptor Arnold Machin, had been in use since 1965.
