| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a tiara and pearl drop earring, as sculpted by Arnold Machin. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and drapery at the shoulder. A continuous beaded border frames the design. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND runs clockwise around the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The field is otherwise plain and unadorned. |

The English legend HONG KONG arcs across the upper periphery between two small five-pointed stars, while FIFTY CENTS and the date appear along the lower periphery, all separated by the inner beaded border.
