| 正面描述 | Arnold Machin's second portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted as a right-facing draped bust wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left periphery, while 'FIJI' and the date appear along the right field. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and crown, characteristic of Machin's mature sculptural style. |

Fiji's 50-cent piece from this period retained the dodecagonal shape introduced at independence in 1969, a deliberate design choice intended to distinguish the high-value coin by touch alone — practical in a cash economy spread across more than 300 islands. The Arnold Machin effigy used here, the second portrait, was already in wide circulation across Commonwealth issues by the mid-1970s, making it one of the more internationally consistent numismatic faces of the decade.
Fiji decimalised in 1969, replacing the pound system; these later issues simply continued that framework under tightening monetary management as the Reserve Bank worked to stabilize currency confidence through the commodity-volatile 1970s.
