Surrounding the central cartouche, the upper legend reads HONGKONG followed by the date, while four Chinese characters reading 香港半圓 (Hong Kong Half Dollar) are distributed in the four quadrant positions outside the cartouche — two at the sides and two at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
