Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944, involved the largest seaborne assault in history — roughly 156,000 troops crossing the Channel on the first day. The Solomon Islands connection is purely administrative: the territory is a Commonwealth realm whose mint licensing agreements make it a frequent vehicle for commemorative issues aimed squarely at the collector market rather than domestic circulation.
