| Reverse description | The reverse faithfully reproduces the iconic funerary death mask of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, rendered in full colour against a gold-toned background shaped to replicate the contour of the original artefact. The mask is depicted with extraordinary detail, including the striped nemes headdress with alternating blue and gold bands, the uraeus cobra and vulture head at the brow, and the plaited false beard at the chin. The face is rendered in polished gold colouring with inlaid cosmetic eyes delineated in black, while the broad usekh collar at the base displays multicoloured bands of blue, red, green, and gold evoking lapis lazuli, carnelian, and turquoise inlays. No inscriptions appear on the reverse, the artistic representation of the mask filling the entire shaped flan. |
