| Reversbeschreibung | Full-color printed design depicting a World War II Allied soldier in battledress and steel helmet, armed with a submachine gun, standing in three-quarter view against a dramatic background of war-damaged Italian buildings with an explosion visible to the left. A gold maple leaf device appears in the lower center of the field, referencing Canadian participation in the Italian Campaign. The date '07-10-1943' is inscribed within a banner across the upper portion of the field, below which the bold raised inscription 'ITALIAN CAMPAIGN' dominates the upper field. |

Napoleon's Italian Campaign of 1796–97 transformed him from a promising general into a continental force, with a string of victories over Austrian and Piedmontese armies that shocked European observers. The campaign was also financially predatory — Bonaparte systematically looted northern Italian states of artworks, bullion, and negotiable assets to fund further operations, a practice he conducted with enough efficiency that Paris grew wealthy on Italian plunder before the fighting had fully concluded.
Gold-plated iron is the operative detail here. The core material places this firmly outside bullion territory.
