| Reverse description | A faithful rendering of Michelangelo's celebrated fresco The Creation of Adam (c. 1512), originally painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Vatican City. To the left, the nude figure of Adam reclines languidly upon a rocky outcrop, his left arm outstretched with index finger extended toward the divine. To the right, God the Father is depicted as a bearded elder figure, robed and borne aloft within a swirling mantle surrounded by angelic attendants, his right arm and finger reaching toward Adam's in the iconic moment of life-giving contact. The entire composition fills the rectangular field and is rendered in fine engraved detail with tonal relief evoking the painterly quality of the Renaissance original. |
