The Britannia design has appeared on British coinage since 1672, when Charles II introduced her to the copper halfpenny and farthing — reportedly modelling the figure on Frances Stuart, a mistress of the court. Her appearance here, on a Solomon Islands issue, reflects the broader Commonwealth licensing arrangements that allow non-UK territories to produce numismatic pieces invoking British iconographic tradition without direct Royal Mint involvement.
